New Delhi: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will present the union budget on February 29, six days after parliament meets.

After the budget session of Parliament begins on February 23, the rail budget will be presented by Suresh Prabhu on the 25th, followed by the economic survey on the 26th.

Mr Jaitley has been holding consultations with the country's industrial chambers and other stakeholders. A few days ago, Junior Finance Minister Jayant Sinha said the government will focus on economic reforms to achieve higher growth in the union budget.

India has revised down its projection of economic growth to 7 percent to 7.5 percent for the current fiscal year that ends on March 31, from earlier estimate of 8.1 percent to 8.5 percent.

Mr Jaitley has said economic growth was expected to gain momentum in the coming quarters, as the impact of economic and structural reforms undertaken by the government takes firm root. "We have achieved macro stability to a large extent but the growth moderation in the global economy and policy uncertainties among advanced countries pose a risk to this outlook," a finance ministry statement said, quoting Jaitley.

The first half of the budget session will end on March 16; second part will run from April 25 to May 13.
