Court decision on Lalgarh killings today
Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court will today decide on a petition asking for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the killings in Netai village in Lalgarh. A court order on it is likely.

The State Home Secretary has filed an affidavit saying no CBI inquiry is needed as the CID is already investigating the case.

Earlier, the High Court had asked the Bengal government to specify its stand on joint operation of central and state forces against Maoist camps in Lalgarh. It has been alleged that CPM cadres killed eight villagers at Netai in Lalgarh on January 7. (Read: 8 killed in Lalgarh, blame game begins)

Noting that the police had reached several hours late and an FIR was lodged about 11 hours after the firing in which seven villagers were shot dead and several seriously injured, a division bench comprising Chief Justice J N Patel and Justice Asim Ray directed the state to submit the case diary in the court.
