0 on 10: That's How Rahul Gandhi Scored Modi Government's First-Year Performance

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi in his constituency of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh

Amethi: After scoring the first year of the BJP government a zero on 10, an aggressive Rahul Gandhi today drove into his parliamentary constituency Amethi and launched yet another attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"The PM travels the world, but has not visited the home of even one farmer," the Congress Vice President said.

He then got off his car and trekked two kilometres, with hundreds of people running behind him, to where a food park, now scrapped, was to be built.

Mr Gandhi has vowed to "try and get back" the food park, which was sanctioned by the previous central government led by his Congress party. "It would have benefited many people, but the Modi government snatched it away. Not from me, but from farmers, workers, the weak," Mr Gandhi said.

Earlier, en route to Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Gandhi said when asked to rate the Modi government's performance, "Like farmers and labourers, I will give it a zero out of 10," adding, "Industrialists and corporate houses will give it 10 out of 10."

Rahul Gandhi - who has been touring parts of the country meeting the families of distressed farmers who have killed themselves - has declared war on the Modi government's land reforms; he calls them "anti-farmer" and "pro-corporate."

He has also repeatedly attacked PM Modi on what he alleges are too many foreign tours.

In China on Saturday, PM Modi said, "I am criticised for travelling, for working hard. If working hard is a crime, I am prepared to commit that crime for 125 crore Indians. Every moment of my time is for the 125 crore people of India."

PM Modi also said in his Shanghai speech that he has taken no vacation in his one year in office, seen as a jibe at Rahul Gandhi, who recently returned from a two-month sabbatical abroad.

This is Mr Gandhi's first visit to Amethi since December 2014, and Mr Modi's BJP has accused him of neglecting his constituency.
