Kolkata: Lashing out at the Left Front major CPI(M) for compromising party unity for the sake of Congress, Forward Bloc today said the Congress-Left Front alliance was a mistake and that there will be no such tie-up in near future.

"Is it an example of sane political understanding that you are ready to sacrifice your 40-year-old allies just for the sake of a two-month-old ally? It is not. The Left unity can only be strengthened with Left parties in it. And it is this Left unity which will fight against the TMC misrule. We don't need the support of Congress for that," Forward Bloc general secretary Debabrata Biswas told news agency PTI.

Mr Biswas said the alliance with the Congress in Bengal Assembly polls was a mistake.

"It was a mistake on our part to go for an alliance or seat adjustment with Congress in Bengal. All Left Front partners have to share this responsibility. But, those leaders (CPI(M) leaders) who had termed this alliance as people's alliance just for the sake of returning to power should also take responsibility.

"In near future there will be no such alliance or tie-up with the Congress," Mr Biswas said, adding the CPI(M) Central Committee in its recent meet has also vouched that the political line adopted in Bengal needed to be rectified.

The CPI(M) Central Committee, after its three-day meet, had concluded on Monday last that the electoral tactics of forging an alliance with Congress was not in consonance with the Central Committee decision and should be rectified.
