Kolkata: Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh today alleged that booth capturing and rigging were taking place in the ongoing West Bengal Assembly polls despite heavy deployment of central forces.

"Central forces are present in a big way, but even then there is a 'bhoot' (ghost) in the booths. Central forces have been told that let the ghost come and cast votes. 'Didi' (Mamata Banerjee) will win and Modi will also win," Mr Ramesh told reporters in Kolkata.

He alleged that booth-capturing and false voting were taking place in the state.

"Officials of the Election Commission in West Bengal are biased towards the ruling party. They are not working independently, but at the instance of Mamata Banerjee. The Centre knows it and has closed one eye," he claimed.

The former Union minister said voting for 'Didi' or Modi was the same as the duo had made a "secret understanding" with each other.

"All this is drama where the actor is Modi and the actress is 'Didi'. This is about their 'jugalbandi'. They have a secret understanding, no matter what they say about each other in public," Mr Ramesh said.

Describing both of them as "dictators", he said they were victims of personality cult.

When asked about the Left-Congress alliance in the state, the Congress leader said as a result of the tie-up, workers of the Left parties were changing.

"Where the Left has not put up its candidates, their workers are standing with our candidates, holding our party flags and shouting 'Vande Mataram' in unison with us," Mr Ramesh said.
