Jammu: A Congress leader has filed a police complaint seeking a probe into circulation of hate messages from a "fake" Twitter handle created on his name.

Congress leader Salman Nizami was recently served a show cause notice by the party's top leadership in connection with the hate messages and he was asked to tender a written reply.

Mr Nizami, who is organising and publicity secretary of the party's Jammu and Kashmir unit, filed a complaint with the Cyber Cell at Gandhi Nagar police station in Jammu.

"I have filed the complaint with the police and asked the state police (SDPO Jammu East) to identify the unknown persons who set up the fake Twitter account," Mr Nizami told reporters in Jammu.

In his complaint, Mr Nizami has said that some unknown persons have circulated fake and hate tweets from an unverified Twitter handle in a bid to smear his reputation.
