Coca-Cola Bottling Partner Found Violating Ground Water Norms: Government

New Delhi: Three complaints have been received against Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh units of 'Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages', the largest bottling partner of the American cola giant, in the last two years, with the complaints forwarded to the respective state governments for investigation and action for violation.

Replying to a question on whether companies have been found violating ground water extraction norms, Minister of State for Water Resources Sanwar Lal Jat yesterday told Lok Sabha that three complaints have been received against M/s Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages for their units located at Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh in the year 2013-14 and 2014-15.

"The complaints were forwarded to the concerned state governments for investigations and action for violations," he said.

The Minister emphasised that the Central Ground Water Authority has fixed norms for withdrawal of ground water by industries using the resource as a raw material, for instance the water intensive industries like packaged drinking water, mineral water, soft drink manufacturing industries.
