CBI chief to depose before JPC
New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director AP Singh will today appear before the Joint Parliamentary Committee probing the 2G scam.

This follows the appearance of Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai before the committee last week.

The CAG, in a report to Parliament in November last year, had pegged presumptive loss to the exchequer on 2G spectrum allocation at Rs 1.76 lakh crore. The report said that the 2G spectrum was allocated to new players at throwaway prices. It also talked about undue advantage given to some firms and the spectrum allocated beyond contracted quantity to 9 firms.

The CAG report also said that the Department of Telecom (DoT) did not follow its own practice of first come first serve.

The findings triggered a political storm and subsequent events led to the resignation of the then Telecom Minister A Raja.
