Cabinet Gives Nod To Health Pact Between India And Maldives

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet today gave ex-post facto approval to a pact between India and Maldives on facilitating greater cooperation between both the nations and also assist the neighbouring country to develop human resources in healthcare.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the approval to the MoU which covers cooperation in areas like exchange and training of medical doctors and other health professionals and medical and health research development.

"The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its ex-post facto approval for the MoU between India and Maldives which was signed in January, 2014 on cooperation in the field of Health," an official statement said.

The MoU covers cooperation in the area of exchange and training of medical doctors, officials, other health professionals and experts, assistance in development of human resources and setting up of healthcare facilities and medical and health research development.

The MoU also covers cooperation in the area of management of healthcare sector and public health services, procurement of generic and essential drugs and assistance in sourcing of drug supplies, health promotion and disease prevention, traditional and complementary medicine, telemedicine and any other area of cooperation as may be mutually decided upon.

"This MoU will facilitate greater cooperation between the two countries, especially for assisting Maldives for development of human resources and facilities for healthcare.

"Enhanced cooperation in the field of health will foster great friendship and relations between the two countries," the official statement added.
