Karnataka By-Polls: In Gundlupet, by-polls were held after the death of minister Mahadeva Prasad. His wife Gita Mahadeva Prasad is trying to retain the seat for the Congress. The BJP candidate is CS Niranjan Kumar. For Mr Siddaramaiah, who faces dissidence within, a victory in both seats is vital to retain his grip over the party ahead of the state election. Mr Siddaramaiah had devoted the last eight days of the by-poll campaign crisscrossing both the constituencies. BJP's BS Yeddyurappa too has a point to prove in these polls and it was evident as the Lingayat strongman camped in the two constituencies for the last 26 days of campaigning. A win would give him an edge in choosing candidates for next year's polls.
