BJP to hold protest against power tariff hike in Rajasthan

Jaipur: The Rajasthan women wing of BJP would hold demonstrations in each district of the state on Saturday in protest against the Congress government's decision to hike power tariff.

BJP Mahila Morcha would organise dharna and protest rally in every district and submit a memorandum to the collectors, state BJP Vice President Digamber Singh told reporters.

"Congress in its manifesto had said there would be no power tariff hike for five years, but the Ashok Gehlot government has increased tariff by 53 per cent in its tenure," Mr Singh said. "In the name of various surcharges and taxes, the urban consumer was affected by the rising tariff," he alleged.

On Thursday, the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission announced a 30-paise tariff hike for households consuming over 500 units a month.

He also said, "If BJP voted to power in coming assembly polls, alleged recovery in cash from farmers under VCR would be refunded and all major relief for agricultural connections would be provided to them."
