BJP today slammed Home Minister P Chidambaram for his remarks that the Ayodhya title suit judgement does not justify the demolition of Babri Masjid, saying the matter was before a court and he should not jump to conclusions.
"He (Chidambaram) should not judge as to what happened in 1992. The matter is before a court and he should not jump to conclusions. Let the court decide," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said here.
Chidambaram had yesterday said, "the judgement in no way justifies the demolition of the Babri Masjid. In my view, it remains a criminal act."
Javadekar also targeted Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan for their remarks after the judgement was pronounced by the Allahabad High Court on the vexed Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit.
Terming their statements as unfortunate, the BJP leader said "at a time when the society has shown restraint, these comments are provocative without any reason."
He said the verdict may not serve the vote-bank politics of the two leaders but they must rise to the occasion and not try and provoke any communal unrest.
A day after the crucial court ruling, Yadav had said that the Muslim community felt cheated by the verdict. He claimed that the judgement would create problems in the future.
The LJP took exception to RSS' comment that the court verdict paved the way for construction of a Ram temple and said nobody should try to derive political benefit from the order.
"The RSS' reaction that the verdict has paved the way for construction of a Ram temple at the site is unfortunate. The case is set to go to the Supreme Court. Today's order should not be seen as anybody's victory or defeat," Paswan had said.
