BJP hits out at 'non-event' remarks
New Delhi: BJP Spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad hit out at the Home Minister P Chidambaram for terming the 'bugging' of the Finance Minister's office as a 'non-event'.

Mr Prasad termed it the biggest comedy of the independent India. He was scathing in his criticism of the Home Minister. Mr Prasad alleged that "when it came to crunch, the Finance Minister did not trust the Home Minister...the FM instead engaged a private agency."

Mr Prasad wanted to know who was the Home Minister fooling?

Mr Chidambaram in an exclusive interview to NDTV had rubbished Opposition arguments that 'there is a civil war' between him and the Finance Minister.

Mr Chidambaram told NDTV that he had no idea about the whole thing, till he saw it in the newspapers last week.

Mr Prasad also wanted to know how was the secret letter written by Pranab Mukherjee to the PM got leaked?

Mr Prasad said it was a clear case of the 'left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing', alluding to the fact that the Home Minister did not know that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) was looking into the matter; the agency works under the Home Minister.

According to an investigation done by The Indian Express, on September 7 last year, the Finance Minister wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to order a "secret inquiry" into what he called a "serious breach of security" in his office - the presence of "planted adhesives" in 16 key locations that suggested a possible surveillance attempt. "In respect of news item regarding bugging in my office, the IB investigated into it and found there is nothing in it," said Mukherjee.
