Patna: Durga Shakti Nagpal, the IAS officer who was suspended by the Uttar Pradesh last month, has now received support from Bihar. The IAS officers' association has passed a resolution, criticising how civil servants are treated by ministers.

"Arbitrary use of disciplinary powers is detrimental to the morale of civil servants," the resolution said, adding, "The suspension of Durga Shakti Nagpal was hasty and avoidable."

"The Association resolves to urge the government of UP to forthwith revoke the suspension of Durga Shakti Nagpal," it said.

The resolution also urged the central government to put in adequate safeguards to ensure that honest bureaucrats officers are not victimised.

Ms Nagpal, 28, was suspended from her office in Greater Noida, on charges that she endangered communal harmony by ordering the demolition of the wall of a new mosque being built without permission on public land.

The UP government headed by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has denounced allegations that it was her campaign to stop illegal sand mining that resulted in the action against her.
