Bihar engineers cease work, demand CBI probe

Patna: About 20,000 government engineers in Bihar struck work on Monday demanding a CBI probe into the alleged murder of an executive engineer of the road division.

The strike under the banner of Engineering Services Coordination Committee (ESCC) would continue till June 24.

Yogendra Pandey, the executive engineer of Sitamarhi road division, had jumped to death from the collectorate building on June 18.

Claiming that the agitation was total, ESCC president A N Jha Anal said if the demand for a CBI probe and trial of Sitamarhi superintendent of police Kshatranil Singh and a local contractor Kishore Singh for not providing security to Pandey were not conceded by Tuesday it would organise a rally here June 24.

If the demands were not conceded by June 24, the ESCC members would resort to state-wide indefinite strike, he said.

Anal and general secretary of Bihar Engineering Services Association (BESA) Rajeshwar Mishra said the responsibility for denying security to Pandey despite his repeated requests should be fixed on the principal secretary of the department, the Sitamarhi district magistrate and police superintendent.
