Bangalore: Rape-Accused Skating Instructor Was Sacked From Previous School, Say Police

Mustafa, the skating instructor arrested for allegedly raping a 6-year-old school girl

Bangalore: A roller skating instructor arrested for the alleged rape of a six-year-old in an elite school in Bangalore had been sacked from his previous school, the police today said.

Mustafa or Munna, 30, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a first grade student of Vibgyor High School on July 2. The police found videos of children being raped on his laptop and mobile.

The school may have thought twice before hiring him, had they known that Mustafa had been fired from Deen's Academy, where he worked before.

The father of a three-year-old girl, Mustafa had been training children at Vibgyor since 2011. The police say they are investigating whether he abused other children.

His family, originally from Bihar, migrated to Bangalore years ago. The son of a driver and a domestic worker, Mustafa got his degree in physical education in Bangalore.

While they are still looking for a second accused, the police say the school may also be charged, either in a separate FIR or police complaint, or the same.

The incident has spurred big changes in schools. This morning, students at the prestigious Bishop Cotton Girls School were informed about a new pass system for their pick up by guardians or school buses.

The city's police have also decided to have Deputy Commissioners of Police going to every school to talk about background checks.

The six-year-old first grade student was reportedly sent out of class for "misbehaving" and asked to stay in an empty room used for storing gym equipment when she was assaulted.

Her mother found out seven days later, when a private nursing home hinted that the child could have been raped.

Hundreds of parents in the IT hub have taken to the streets and social media demanding tough action, not just against the alleged attackers but also against the school for not protecting the child.

A crowd of activists from the BJP's student wing ABVP protested outside the school this morning, waving party flags.
