Bag with lakhs found on train is not mine, says Sandeep Dikshit

New Delhi: Sandeep Dikshit, who is a Lok Sabha MP from Delhi, has said that a bag filled with ten lakhs in cash, left behind by him on a train, does not belong to him.  Mr Dikshit's mother, Sheila, is the Chief Minister of Delhi.

Mr Dikshit arrived at the Bhopal station this morning; he travelled in a coupe reserved for him.  A little later, a railway worker who was collecting blankets and sheets from the compartment found a bag full of cash. He alerted his seniors to his discovery.

Mr Dikshit later clarified that the bag belongs to a friend of his who was travelling in a different coach on the same train. "I have nothing to do with the money," said Mr Dikshit. "It belongs to my friend, Jayesh Mathur... he said that he has some valuables and my coupe is safer... therefore we kept it here"

When Mr Mathur, an architect, discovered that Mr Dikshit and his attendants had forgotten the bag behind, he rushed to the train station.  Mr Mathur said he was carrying a large amount of cash for a flat that his family plans to purchase in Bhopal.

Both Mr Dikshit and his friend expressed their gratitude to the train attendant, Bhagwan Das, who found the money and turned it in.
