Rangia: A complaint has been registered against a legislator from Assam, Gopi Nath Das, for the alleged sexually assault on his minor domestic help, police said today.

The 14-year old girl and her family had filed a first information report with the Boko police station, on August 29, alleging that the minor was raped by Mr Das inside his car in Guwahati a few days ago, police said.

The Boko police station registered a case against Mr Das under section 343 of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Police Superintendent of Kamprup district Indrani Barua told PTI that a case had been registered against the MLA and law would take its own course.

Gopi Nath Das, who represents Boko constituency, dismissed the girl's charges and said that it was a "conspiracy against me and is 100 per cent false. If a case has been filed then investigations will prove that the allegations are false".

Mr Das claimed that the girl had fled from his house a few days ago after taking her belongings with her.

Meanwhile, local people, women's organisations, All Assam Students Union, All Rabha Students Union, All Assam Koch Rajbanshi Students Union members demonstrated in front of the Boko Police Station against the lawmaker demanding his arrest.
