Assam Government Hasn't Submitted Utilisation Certificates: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal

Morigaon: Assam government has not submitted utilisation certificates of several Central schemes and Central funds have been stopped in some cases, Union Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare Sarbananda Sonowal said today.

"Several financial anomalies have been detected in the implementation of several Central schemes in the state," Mr Sonowal said while addressing a rally in Morigaon today.

The state government has not submitted utilisation certificates in several schemes being implemented following which the Centre has reduced or stopped central funds in some cases, he said.

"The BJP government at the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to provide a corruption free India in every sphere of governance," Mr Sonowal said.

He alleged that Rs 125 crore earmarked for development has been misappropriated by Congress-ruled Tiwa Autonomous Council during the last five years.

"This situation must change and for this the BJP must be brought to the helm of affairs in the Council so that we can ensure development in central Assam," the Union Minister said.

Elections to the 30-member Tiwa Autonomous Council is scheduled for August 19.
