Arrested medical body chief moves court for bail

New Delhi: The secretary of New Delhi branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA), arrested on a complaint of the doctors' body accusing him of being a quack, has moved a court here for grant of bail.

Metropolitan Magistrate Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler, who took the bail application of accused Jitendra Kumar Sharma into the records, has fixed May 3 as the next date of hearing.

Sharma, who is in judicial custody since his arrest on April 20, has claimed in the plea that he was innocent and should be enlarged on bail.

The accused, who was elected as secretary of New Delhi branch of IMA for 2010-2011, used to pose himself as a specialist physician, according to the FIR against him.

He was also an elected member of the Delhi Medical Association and was serving as consulting physician in various charitable hospitals, it said.

The doctors' body had lodged a complaint against the alleged quack after it became suspicious of his professional credentials.

He has been booked under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Delhi Medical Council Act, dealing with forgery, cheating and showing fake documents as genuine ones.

The accused had allegedly started his career as a health correspondent.
