Army bought flawed helicopters: CAG report

New Delhi:

The Comptroller and Auditor General on Friday slammed the advanced light helicopter, which has been bought by the arm.

The CAG report released on Friday shows that the Indian Army bought 40 indigenously-built advanced light helicopters that have a technical flaw.

The fault prevents the helicopters from flying above 5,000 metres though the army's requirement stipulated an ability to fly up to 6,500 metres. This affects their operational preparedness in high altitude areas like the Siachen glacier.

The army spent Rs 1,747 crore on the helicopters that were meant to enhance surveillance capabilities.
