Andhra's IT minister receives threatening calls

Andhra Pradesh's IT & Sports Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh's IT & Sports Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy is scared of staying connected. The reason for this is that in the last four months, he has received more than one hundred threatening phone calls from a person who says he will kill him.

But even in the age of high-end technology, the police has not been able to trace the calls, made from the same mobile number.

"I do not have any enemies or any personal grudges. Only politically I am targeted in Nalgonda district. So maybe that is the reason,'' Reddy said.

The police however does not think the calls have anything to do with political rivalry. The man has also called the Nalgonda superintendent of police, to claim that the minister indulged in land-grabbing and allegedly swindled him of Rs 1.7 crore.

The police chief says the man sounds mentally disturbed but still clever enough to dodge the police.

But not wanting to take any chances, the home ministry has increased the security for Reddy, who also holds the sports portfolio.

The Nalgonda district police says they are zeroing in on an area from where they think the calls are emanating.
