Andhra Assembly adjourned over Telangana

Hyderabad: After two days of a bandh that saw clashes between students and policemen, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Tuesday sought to move an adjournment motion in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly demanding that the government put forth a resolution on Telangana.

The Speaker did not allow this and the House was adjourned for a second time on Tuesday morning, this time for the day. The TRS resolution and Telengana will be taken up in the Assembly on Friday.

Earlier in the morning, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned for 15 minutes after TRS MLAs demanded that they be allowed to move the adjournment motion.

TRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao's fast-unto-death over the demand for a separate Telangana state is well into the second week now. He has refused to budge despite personal appeals from the chief minister and has said only an assurance from the Prime Minister will do.

The entire Telangana region is tense and the Congress is in a huddle over how to defuse the situation.
