Within 24 hours of a meeting with its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ruling BJP today showed signs of change.
BJP president Amit Shah will meet with party workers twice a month, on the first and third Mondays.
Sources say the decision was taken after the RSS told top BJP leaders to tackle an apparent "disconnect" with party workers, end negative perception about the government and project the positives of the Land Bill, criticised by opposition parties as "anti-farmer".
The reality check comes weeks after the BJP's abysmal performance in the Delhi election, which saw Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party winning by a landslide.
Mr Shah's schedule already includes meetings with one minister each day at the party headquarters.
Sources say the RSS assessed the BJP's 10 months in power and warned against allowing the disconnect between leaders and workers to hurt the party's chances in states going to polls this year, including Bihar.
The RSS' concerns also reflected in a meeting that Mr Shah and union minister Arun Jaitley had today with party veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, who had last year been dropped from the BJP's decision making panels and made members of a mentor group.
Sources say the BJP leadership has been asked to "keep party elders engaged."
Hours after this meeting, Amit Shah even held a rare informal meet the press.
