A Poster is Worth a Thousand Words in Parliament

The BJP and Congress have been flashing posters in Parliament, taking potshots at each other

New Delhi: A war of posters enlivened the cycle of protests and adjournments in Parliament today, as members of the ruling BJP and the Congress tried to outdo each other in wit and decibel.

Since Tuesday, Congress members have been flashing posters taunting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and questioning his silence on the controversies surrounding top ministers and chief ministers.

"Pradhan mantri chuppi todo, Sushmajiko barkhaast karo, (PM break your silence, sack Sushma Swaraj)," said one poster, referring to the controversy over Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj helping tainted cricket tycoon Lalit Modi with travel papers at a time his passport was cancelled by the Indian government.

Another poster read: "Bada Modi meherban toh chhota Modi pehelwan (Under older Modi's generosity, younger Modi is flourishing."

Today, the BJP's comeback came in the form of posters that targeted Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra, who has been accused of involvement in controversial land deals that brought him windfall gains.

The ruling party MPs came to the house holding up posters saying: "Ulta chor kotwal ko daante... kisano ka zameen damad ko bantey (Look who's talking, those who gave away farmers' land to the son-in-law)."
