22 die of sun stroke in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: As many as 22 people lost their lives in different parts of Andhra Pradesh due to sun-stroke, even as there was no respite from heat wave conditions across the state with the mercury level hovering between 40 and 46 degrees Celsius.

As per the reports sent from different districts (where sun-stroke deaths occurred yesterday) to Disaster Management Department here, 22 persons have died due to sun-stroke, and the toll, officials said may rise further as they were yet to receive reports on today's deaths.

"Till now, we have received information that 22 persons died due to sun-stroke. We are awaiting more details including deaths that occurred on Saturday," Disaster Management (Special Commissioner) K Surendra Mohan said.

Nine deaths were reported in Mahabubnagar district, four each in Medak, Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts while one sun-stroke death has been reported from Hyderabad, he said.

Severe heat wave conditions continued in different districts of the state with Nizamabad district recording
highest temperature of 46 degree Celsius followed by Ramgundam 45.3, Kadapa 43.4, Hyderabad 43.2, Anantapur 43 and Nellore 40.3 degree Celsius, Met officials here said.

The authorities said heat wave conditions may continue to prevail over Telangana and in the districts of Anantapur and Chittoor of Rayalseema during next two days.
