2 dead in explosion at train station in Madurai district

Madurai: Two people have died and 10 injured in an explosion at Sholavandan Railway station in Tamil Nadu's Madurai district.

The explosion took place at Platform No. 2 as a passenger train pulled into the station at 6 pm.

This is the first station outside Chennai en route to Madurai. Intelligence reports say this explosion was most probably caused by Diwali crackers.

Intelligence sources have told NDTV that cracker wrappers were found at explosion site. White phosphorus powder was also detected. Bag of unexploded cracker bombs were also seen.
