A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered by four people in Uttarakhand's remote Jaunsar-Bawar region. A minor has been arrested while the three other accused are still at large.
The incident, which happened on January 1, came to light when the body of the teen, a class 9 student, was found hanging from a tree in the adjoining forest near to her house in Rota village.
Premlal, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Chakrata told NDTV, "The post-mortem report confirmed rape and death by strangulation."
According to the reports, the girl was last seen while she was going to school.
After the outrage, Circle Officer Swapan Kumar took over the probe. "One accused who has been arrested in connection with case is a minor," he said.
According to police, the minor has confessed to the crime. He reportedly admitted that he had hid his bike, thrown his clothes into the river to destroy the evidence of the crime.
