Bhopal:

An 11-year-old in Madhya Pradesh is in critical condition after she was set on fire by a police constable, who has since gone missing.

Yasmeen Khan is fighting for her life with third-degree burns in Indore. Earlier today, she allegedly borrowed her neighbour's bicycle and took it for a ride without his permission. The constable, Prakash Jaroliya, then allegedly beat her up and took her to her house, where he reportedly poured kerosene on her and then lit a match.

Neighbours say Yasmeen came running out her house, shrieking with pain. They say they helped put out the flames, and then moved her to hospital.

Yasmeen's mother, Rehana, was out with her two other daughters when Yasmeen was attacked. "When I came back, I got to know that Constable Prakash, who lives near our house, beat up my daughter as he was angry with her for riding his bicycle without permission. People told me that Prakash then took Yasmeen to our house and set her on fire. This man must be punished," she said.

This police till now has not registered an FIR against the constable and says that they will investigate the matter first. And, if the constable is found guilty they will lodge an FIR.

Meanwhile, Constable Prakash, along with his wife and two daughters, has deserted his house.
