100 employees promoted, demoted in just 10 months

Mumbai: Though it may sound hilarious, but it's true. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) that promoted some hundred odd employees from its Mumbai division in September 2010 with a salary hike has now revoked all the promotions and hikes.

Official order
The withdrawal order (copy available with MiD DAY) that was issued by S K Sharma, general manager, HR, AAI on November 29, categorically reads, "In accordance with instruction vide CHQ letter no xxxxxxxx 27/07/2011, the placement orders issued vide order no xxxxxxxx dated 28/10/2010, in respect to the following officials are withdrawn. The above officials will continue to draw the pay scale that was drawn by them prior to issue of above orders."

Dejected
"All of us were excited when we received the letter of promotion with a hike. However, in just ten months, the management abolished its own order. When we approached them, they (management) said that it was a mistake on their part and the new order was to rectify it," said an affected employee, requesting anonymity.

'The list was rigged'
Speaking to MiD DAY, some of the affected employees accused the management of covering up its wrongdoing. "From the very beginning, the promotion list had been controversial. It included names of those employees, who had been already promoted more than four times in the last 10 years. Only a handful of newbies were promoted, so that nobody suspected the management," said another affected employee.

Despite repeated attempts, S K Sharma remained inaccessible for comment.
