Principal Suspended, Protests Continue At Gurgaon School Where 7-Year-Old Was Killed: 10 Points

The father this morning visited the Gurgaon Police Commissioner's office to demand action against management of the Ryan International School.

Gurgaon: Amid calls for action by angry parents against a school in Gurgaon where a seven-year-old child was killed allegedly by a bus conductor inside a toilet, the acting principal of Ryan International School has been suspended. The services of the private agency which provided security to the school have also been suspended. There have been angry protests at the school by hundreds of agitated parents since yesterday morning when the seven year old boy was found with his throat slit in the school bathroom. The Class 2 student had been brutally murdered allegedly by a school bus conductor who also tried to sexually assault the boy.

Following are the 10 latest developments in the Ryan International School murder case:

  1. "Principal Neerja Batra has been suspended. We took action against the security agency of the school. A special committee is probing the case," Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner of Police Simardeep Singh said this afternoon.

  2. The Gurgaon Police Commissioner said the investigation will be completed in seven days. "Will try to file charge sheet in court within seven days and request for fast trial," he said.

  3. The school, in a statement today, said authorities have seriously taken up the review of the security measures. "All necessary improvements and measures are being audited and reinforced with the help of experts. We are also seeking advice from the Police department to guide us in this regard," it said.

  4. Education Minister Prakash Javadekar today said there will be justice in this case. "Unfortunate. It's like warning to people and schools. Justice will be served for sure," he told news agency ANI. 

  5. The Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE has said that a fact finding committee has been set up. "Ryan International has been asked to send a report along with the FIR filed in this case within two days," CBSE's Public Relations Office Rama Sharma told ANI.

  6. The District Collector has formed a committee which will report on the lapses by the school. Haryana Education Minister Rambilas Sharma said "Culprit won't be spared. Sympathies with child's parents." 

  7. The conductor, Ashok, was arrested late Friday evening after the police questioned several staff members, teachers and even spoke to students. He was produced in a Gurgaon court this afternoon and was sent to police custody for three days.

  8. But parents say just the arrest of the conductor is not enough. They want the school to be held accountable. The father of the seven-year-old victim visited the Gurgaon Police Commissioner's office this morning to demand action against management of the school. His elder daughter studies in Class 5 in the same school.

  9. "The school could not even ensure basic safety for my son, how will then parents send children to school," Jyoti, the child's mother, told news agency ANI. "My son did not even know the bus conductor as he never traveled in bus. We used to drop him and pick him," she added.

  10. Hundreds of parents had barged into the school building yesterday, flung furniture around and shattered the glass award cases. They shouted slogans until they were ushered out by policemen of the gates.
