Auto-Driver Allegedly Thrashed by Traffic Cops in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: An auto-driver was on Tuesday allegedly thrashed by Gurgaon traffic cops after he told them that he would not be able to pay the fine imposed on him, police said.

In the incident which was captured on video by fellow auto-drivers, the victim identified as Junaid Khan was allegedly taken to a traffic booth and thrashed by the policemen.

The incident occurred when the policemen were issuing traffic fines to auto-drivers at Huda City Centre Metro Station on car-free day today.

"When Khan expressed his helplessness to pay the challan, the traffic cops slapped him five to six times and dragged him to a nearby police booth," Yogesh Sharma, District President of Auto Association, said.

Khan was later arrested and taken to Sector 29 Police Station where scores of auto-drivers assembled in protest
against the incident.

An auto-driver said an assurance was later given by Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk that action would be taken against those responsible.

ACP Hawa Singh said an FIR has been registered in this connection and police is investigating the matter.

"We have seen the video footage captured by a mobile phone. The investigation is currently on and if anyone is found guilty severe departmental action would be taken against him," Mr Singh said.
