NDTV opinion poll: Jayalalithaa to be dominant player but DMK makes gains in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi: NDTV's opinion poll shows that Jayalalithaa will win a lion's share of Tamil Nadu's 39 seats in the national election. Her AIADMK is expected to win 22 seats, 13 more than the previous election in 2009.

Her nearest rival DMK is expected to win 14 seats, which is five less than what it won in the last election in alliance with the Congress. But M Karunanidhi's party seems to have gained some ground since NDTV's last opinion poll on April 4, when it was given 11 seats. The exit of DMK chief's estranged older son Alagiri doesn't seem to have impacted the party much.

The BJP's six-party alliance is expected to win three seats, though it is expecting a bigger haul on the strength of its alliance partners - Vijayakanth of the DMDK, popularly known as 'Captain', and the PMK of S Ramadoss.

Jayalalithaa's AIADMK was seen as a possible ally if the BJP falls short of a majority, but the Chief Minister today targeted both the Congress and Narendra Modi, perhaps as a clear message to her voters.

The Congress, left without any alliances, is expected to draw a blank.
