Andhra Pradesh's 'Dabangg' meets Narendra Modi, extends full support to BJP

Actor-turned politician Pawan Kalyan.

Ahmedabad: Telugu film actor and Jana Sena party founder Pawan Kalyan met Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar today, and offered his full support to the BJP's bid to capture power at the Centre.

Mr Kalyan, the youngest brother of Union Minister of State for Tourism K Chiranjeevi, launched Jana Sena in Hyderabad on March 14 with the call "Congress hatao, Desh bachao," echoing what Mr Modi had been campaigning for over the past few months.

"Met Pawan Kalyan. This was our first meeting & I am impressed with his passion & commitment to serve the nation, (sic)" Mr Modi tweeted this evening.

"I am going to extend my full support to Mr Modi. He will surely be the next Prime Minister. I have no doubts about it,'' the 42-year-old popular Telugu actor told reporters after meeting the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

Mr Kalyan, however, refused to disclose where he would contest the coming elections from. "I have not yet decided on where I would be contesting. It would take few more days to decide from where I am going to contest for the elections,'' he said.

The Telugu actor, who commands a lot of following in Andhra Pradesh, has been invited by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu to join hands with him to evict the Congress from the state.

Mr Kalyan, on his part, has indicated that he was willing to join hands with any party to remove the Congress from power in the state and at the Centre. A TDP-BJP-Jana Sena alliance can spell trouble for its adversaries in the Seemandhra region of Andhra Pradesh.

"Our nation needs a Prime Minister like Mr Modi. Indecisive leadership of Congress is evident in the way Andhra Pradesh was divided,'' Mr Kalyan said.

"I am not politician. I am not interested in holding power. I came into politics for the well-being of people. More than power and position, I have come here to ensure the well-being of my people in the state,'' he added at the same time.
