Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh election results expected by 2 pm: Poll panel chief

New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) VS Sampath has said most assembly election results in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are expected by 2 pm today.
Speaking to NDTV before counting of votes began in the two states, the CEC explained that postal ballots would be counted in the first half hour, before counting of votes cast on the electronic voting machines or EVMs began.
He noted the record voter turnout in both states and said "this time we took a conscious decision that except in very rare cases, we should get a complaint from aggrieved party...In that too, we heard the party, got the tape...because it is not our intention to curb legitimate election campaigning."
