On Twitter, Nawaz Sharif's Daughter Thanks Narendra Modi for Gift

The shawl gifted by Narendra Modi to Maryam Nawaz's grandmother.

When Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif returned to Islamabad after attending Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony, he carried with him a gift from the new Indian Prime Minister for his mother.

The gift had Mr Sharif's daughter Maryam gushing in admiration. "Thank u v much PM @narendramodi for the beautiful shawl for my grandmother. My father personally delivered it to her," she wrote on the micro-blogging site, Twitter. She attached a photograph of the shawl along with her comment. The Pakistani Prime Minister flew back home this evening after a two day long stay in India. During this period, he held a meeting with his Indian counterpart in the capital's Hyderabad House -an interaction which was called an "icebreaker," besides attending his grand swearing-in ceremony, along with other leaders of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, or SAARC countries. The two leaders talked about their mothers when they met briefly after Mr Modi was sworn in as India's new Prime Minister at an impressive function held in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Monday evening. The topic of their discussion formed the basis of Mr Modi's tweets later that night. "Earlier in the evening in my conversation with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif he shared some very emotional things...Nawaz Sharif ji told me that he stays in Islamabad but goes to meet his Mother once in a week." "This time when he was eating with his Mother he saw visuals on TV of my Mother offering me sweets...The visuals touched both Nawaz Sharif ji & his Mother. He told me that after seeing the visuals his Mother got very emotional," Mr Modi tweeted.
