Ahmedabad: BJP's prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will file his nomination from the Vadodara Lok Sabha constituency in his home state on Wednesday.

Thousands of police personnel have been deployed along the four-kilometre-route which his cavalcade will follow. The Gujarat chief minister is also contesting from Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Vadodara is considered a BJP stronghold with the party winning the seat by almost 1.5 lakh seats in 2008. Six of the seven assembly segments in the constituency are held by the BJP while the remaining seat is held by an independent, who is now in the BJP fold.

And continuing to use his tea seller background yet again, the Vadodara unit of the BJP has chosen a tea vendor as one amongst the five proposers for his nomination. Party sources said that tea seller Kiran Mahida will be signing up as a proposer. Mr Modi is up against Congress candidate Madhusudan Mistry from the constituency.

Mr Modi will arrive at the Vadodara airport from Delhi at 9:15 am and then, 15 minutes later, will start his roadshow called 'Vijay Vishwas Rally.' The roadshow will start from Kirti Stambh and move through Khanderao market, Nyay Mandir, Jubiless Baugh and Raopura before culminating at the collector's office.

At 11 am, Mr Modi is expected to file his nomination papers before leaving for the party's campaign in Maharashtra.
