Election Commission Rejects Repoll Demand in West Bengal

Kolkata: The Election Commission (EC) today rejected opposition's demand for repoll in some booths in West Bengal that went to polling on April 30 in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections.

"After going through all the reports, the EC has ruled out a repoll in any booth that went to the polls on April 30 since there was no such incident in support of the demand by the opposition parties," OSD in CEO's office Amit Roy Chowdhury said in Kolkata.

Congress, BJP and Left parties have alleged that there was rigging and booth capturing in the third phase and demanded a repoll in some booths.

The Congress and Left parties had also demanded removal of CEO Sunil Gupta and the state's Special Observer Sudhir Kumar Rakesh for their failure to ensure a free and fair election.
