New Delhi: The Election Commission today pulled up Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah for describing Narendra Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, as a "mass murderer."

The Election Commission, in its order, said that the Karnataka chief minister had violated the model code of conduct by using "derogatory" language against Mr Modi in his rallies held across the state earlier this week.

Taking umbrage at the chief minister's remarks, the BJP had yesterday approached the state's Chief Electoral Officer, urging him to take "stringent action" against the Congress leader. The CEO had forwarded the complaint to the Election Commission.
