Vadodara, Gujarat: Vadodara district electoral officer today rejected the objection to the nomination papers of Narendra Modi, raised by the Congress candidate from the seat who said that the BJP's prime ministerial candidate has not provided assets and liability details of his wife.

During the scrutiny of the nomination papers today, Congress candidate from Vadodara, Madhusudan Mistry pointed out that Modi has failed to provide details of PAN card number, bank account details, etc., of his wife Jasodaben in his nomination papers.

He demanded from District Electoral Officer Vinod Rao that Modi's candidature be rejected as he has failed to provide details of assets and liabilities of his wife.

Mistry also requested the Election Commission to register an FIR against Modi for his failure in providing other details of his wife in the columns of his nomination papers in which he has just said that details are 'not known' to him.

In an affidavit submitted along with his nomination papers filed yesterday for Vadodara Lok Sabha seat, Modi for the first time declared himself as a married man by revealing his wife's name as Jashodaben.

However, in the column where he has to declare assets and liabilities in the name of his wife, Modi has written that he has no information on it.

Vadodara District Collector Vinod Rao, however, rejected the objection raised by Mistry citing a Supreme Court ruling on the issue with regard to some other case.

Mistry contended, "It is mandatory for a candidate to provide all details in nomination papers as per directive of the Election Commission and Modi who is nominated as prime minister nominee by his party, cannot hide them.

"Modi has not given divorce to his wife. So he should have provided all details about his wife in his nomination papers," Mistry demanded.

After Rao overruled his objections, Mistry demanded that the district electoral officer should provide to him this ruling in writing.

Modi, Mistry and AAP candidate Sunil Kulkarni are pitted against each other in a three-way contest for the Vadodara Lok Sabha seat.
