Communists punished by voters: Advani

Communists punished by voters: Advani
Ahmedabad: Communists and other allies of UPA, who were "blackmailing" Congress, have been punished by the electorate and Congress has got benefit in the process, senior BJP leader L K Advani said on Sunday.

Referring to the Left parties' debacle in the Lok Sabha polls, he said, "Communists became scapegoat of Congress' failures".

Advani was in Ahmedabad to attend a function organised by state BJP to thank voters of Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad for electing BJP candidates in the Lok Sabha polls.

"I have been asked about the verdict of electorate in the Lok Sabha polls. I think the main factors are that people have punished Communists, who according to them were blackmailing Congress," he said, giving his first formal reaction to the Lok Sabha polls after results came out on May 16.

"People have also voted out smaller parties which were aspiring to get power at the Centre with their limited strength. People have voted for bipolar polity having two main parties," Advani said.

"This is in fact an endorsement of BJP's stand that there should be two dominant parties at the national level," he said adding, "Jan Sangh and BJP's creation was meant to break the dominance of single dominant party in the polity of the country and BJP has done this."
