Voters stand in queues to cast their votes outside a polling booth in New Delhi during third phase of polling for Lok Sabha elections.
"Display your ink mark and be rewarded", a mantra that traders and shopkeepers in the capital went all out to promote on the 10th of April, as the national capital went to polls.
Traders in Sadar Bazaar offered discounts of up to 30%, a restaurant in Delhi free noodles and to the joy of many, petrol pumps handed out a concession of 50 Paise on each litre of petrol. No one wanted to be left behind. Marketers said their only aim was to spur the voting turnout by offering maximum incentive to voters. (

"We are offering up to 30 percent discount to all voters. All they have to do is show their ink mark", said Harjit Singh Chabra a trader at Sadar Bazaar in Delhi. (

"Whatever small incentive it is, it encourages voters. It is a very good offer by petrol stations. We are very happy", said a smiling couple at one of the many petrol stations offering the voter discount.
"It's a small incentive but it's encouraging. It's almost like, you do something for them, they do something for you", said Purva who indulged in a hot plate of free noodles at a restaurant in South Delhi.
64% of the capital's voting population cast their vote and many of whom we met, made the most of the many perks offered to encourage them to do just that.
