Arunachal Pradesh police seize Rs one crore from candidate's vehicle

Itanagar: An amount of over Rs one crore was today seized from the vehicle of a candidate in Yazali of Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh today, police said.

Acting on a tip-off from the election office, police intercepted the vehicle and seized an amount of Rs 1.84 crore, which they alleged was meant for distribution during the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.

Police, however, did not disclose the name of the political party as well that of the candidate, contesting in the Assembly elections, from whose vehicle the seizure was made.

With today's seizure, the flying squads and static surveillance teams of the Election Commission operating in the state, so far have seized Rs 4.16 crore cash besides 69,503 litres of liquor worth Rs 1.22 crore, sources said.

Arunachal Pradesh will go into the polls for two Lok Sabha seats and 60-member Assembly on April 9.
