Rajasthan Schools May Soon Include Water Conservation In The Curriculum

New Delhi: Rajasthan schools may soon impart lessons in water conservation. The State takes pride in being the first in the country to include advanced techniques for water conservation, Chairperson of Rajasthan River Basin and Water Resources Planning Authority has also affirmed the news of inclusion of water conservation lesson in school syllabus. As per PTI report, the Jal Swavlamban Yojna (JSY) model has been lauded with appreciation and South Africa, Brazil and Australia plan to adopt it. The State government had successfully implemented phase 1 of the JSY model; the second phase 2 has been launched recently. 

Proposals have been sent to the State government regarding inclusion of JSY lessons in school syllabus. Creating awareness among the younger generation, regarding the importance of water conservation and the techniques of Jal Swavlamban Yojna will definitely nurture them towards a noble cause in the future. 

JSY phase 2 has a much bigger and wider prospect than its first version. 4200 new works have been selected for the same and it will geo tag 1.5 saplings planted at the sites. 66 urban cities will also be in focus. Renovation and restoration of historic water bodies, rainwater harvesting at 1200 government buildings are also prominent part of the JSY phase 2 model. 

According to PTI report, 96000 water conservation works were done in the phase 1 of JSY, which in return fetched 11170 million cubic feet water from rains. While 3259 villages were included it benefitted 41 lakh population and 45 lakh livestock in the State.
