Two Indians were among three foreigners who have been jailed in Dubai for one year for trying to bribe 250,000 Dirham to a senior government official to allot them parking lots for their trucks at a market in violation of rules.
Two investors, an Indian and an Iranian, had offered 250,000 Dirham (Rs 43,60,185) bribe to an inspector at the Ras Al Khor Vegetables and Fruit market to help them have parking lots for their trucks in violation of Dubai Municipality rules.
The investors were convicted by the Dubai Criminal Court which sentenced them to one year in jail for their attempt to bribe a senior government official.
Their third accomplice, who is also an Indian and played the role of a middleman in bribing the official, was ordered to stay behind bars for one year.
The incident took place in last September and the police asked the honest inspector to heed to the demand of the investors and pretend accepting their offer, according to the public prosecution.
"Police laid a trap and managed to arrest the two investors and the broker red-handed when they were handing over the cash to the inspector," the public prosecution was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times.
The court also ordered confiscation of the bribe money and ordered deportation of the three after completion of their jail terms.
Khamees Mohammed Saeed Al Halian, the Emirati inspector had refused to accept the money offered by the two investors in lieu of 14 parking bays for their trucks at the market, according to the court.
