New Delhi: Rebel Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Vinod Kumar Binny today met the Delhi Police Commissioner demanding action against Law Minister Somnath Bharti over the midnight raid controversy.

He also accused Mr Bharti of conducting the raid in south Delhi with an aim of grabbing headlines.

"I told the (Delhi Police) Commissioner that police should take action against an individual irrespective of the post he occupies and the investigation should not slow down," the Laxmi Nagar MLA told reporters after the meeting.

"He (Bharti) should have been sacked. We never thought our ministers would do this. This is for camera (publicity) ... to impress people. But in doing so one should not forget his limits," he said.

There have been demands for the sacking of Mr Bharti after a Ugandan woman identified Mr Bharti as the one who led a group of AAP workers in attacking their house and misbehaved with them on the pretext of a raid on an alleged drug and prostitution ring in South Delhi last week.

Attacking the government for not fulfilling promises made to the people, Mr Binny said the latest dharna staged by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal outside Rail Bhavan was to divert the attention of the people from the government's failures.

"Several promises were made...the Jan Lokpal was to be passed in 15 days. Where are the women commandos?" he said.

Mr Binny had accused the Delhi government of deviating from its principles and poll promises and called Arvind Kejriwal a "liar".

The party had then issued him a show cause notice for "tarnishing" the image of the party.

A decision on his fate is to be taken in a day or two, party sources said.
