Two arrested for Delhi building collapse
Delhi: Two people were arrested on Sunday for the collapse of a four-storey building in west Delhi in which four people, including three women, were killed, police said.

"Davendra Kalra, the owner of a plot adjacent to the building and his partner Tarun Chawla were arrested Sunday while Dayal Chawla, Shiv Sodi and Kishan Sodhi are absconding," said a senior police officer.

According to the police, the owners of the plot, which has some construction on it, were illegally trying to construct a basement, which weakened the adjacent building, and leading to its collapse.

Police have registered a case under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of Indian Penal Code against the five persons.

Rooprani Sharma, 60, her daughter-in-law Richa, 40, and her two-year-old grandson Jai and building owner Savita Sharma, 54, died in the incident. Rooprani Sharma's son Gagan suffered serious injuries.

Rooprani's family lived on the ground floor of the building while Savita, who belonged to another family, lived on one of the other three floors.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Saturday ordered a vigilance inquiry into the incident and two engineers have been suspended for negligence.
