They may have impressive resumes to approach any top company for a lucrative job but turned robbers for different reasons.
One wanted money as he lost his job due to recession, his MBA friend wanted to fly to US to meet his girlfriend and another working in an industrial group wanted a fatter purse to entertain his wife as well as his girlfriend.
All of them landed in police net along with four associates in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar yesterday following investigations into a case of robbers getting the signature of an NRI in three cheques on gunpoint and encashing them later.
"They encashed one of the self-cheques worth Rs 30,000 from his bank through one of their associates while others remained present at the house and confined him until the cheque was encashed," H G S Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said.
The first to be arrested were Naved Khan (30), a post-graduate in Economics, and Mohd Savez (21), an MBA, and their interrogation led to the arrest of Kuldeep Tomar (28), a post-graduate in Economics, Ravi Kumar (27), Rahul Pawar (20), Gagan Deep (24), and Neeraj (22).
A US-made pistol, a revolver along with four live cartridges, two robbed cars, two motorcycles, a mobile, a laptop, two golden rings and cash were recovered from them.
Khan, the gang leader, was working in various MNCs since last ten years in Delhi as an executive and due to recession, he had to go for a salary cut and then eventually was thrown out of the job.
"During working in the MNC, he developed a relationship with his colleague and started living with her. To earn more money and to clear his debts, he started committing robberies and carjacking with his associates," Dhaliwal said.
Savez's father is working in the British High Commission. He is unemployed and wanted to visit his girlfriend who is presently settled in Virginia.
"He was earlier arrested in a robbery case in which he and his associates looted Rs one lakh from an executive of Oxygen Company," he said.
After completing his MA in Economics, Tomar is doing MBA in retail management. His wife is working as a teacher in a government school.
"Tomar's father owns two public schools in Baraut in UP. He is working in Delhi with the Essar group as a regional sales manager since the last three years but due to a lavish lifestyle and maintaining a girlfriend, he is unable to fulfil his needs from his salary. He was unable to give money to his family members who were frequently taunting him, thus he started committing robberies and carjacking with his associates," Dhaliwal said.
Kumar, whose father runs a general store shop in Sangam Vihar, worked in many recovery agencies with Khan as a field officer.
"The gang used to overtake the targeted vehicle by putting their vehicle in front of it. A pillion rider used to immediately get down and overpower the driver by showing a pistol," Dhaliwal said.
