Police solves case of girl found in bag at station

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have finally solved the case of the mysterious recovery of a young woman's body from near the New Delhi railway station a fortnight ago.

Cops said Neetu Solanki was murdered allegedly by her "live-in" partner Raju Gehlot.

The police claim comes after the arrest of Naveen Shokeen, who allegedly harboured Gehlot - his relative - who had sought his help to dispose off the body. Shokeen told police that Gehlot, who holds a master's degree in tourism management and an "absentee" employee of Indian Airlines, allegedly murdered Neetu Solanki who was living with the latter.

" Raju had called up Naveen Shokeen at 5 am on February 11 and asked for a car. Apparently, he confessed to Naveen Shokeen that he had killed Neetu and wanted the car to dispose off the body...We have arrested Shokeen for providing a hideout for Solanki at his home and charged him under sections 201 and 202 (intentionally harbouring and concealing an accused) of the Indian Penal Code," Ashok Chand, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), told reporters here.

The body of Neetu was found outside the railway station on February 11 inside an airbag and had remained unidentified till February 23 when her father approached the police to claim the body. Police had received queries from around 70 families, including one from the UK, about the body. The body bore injury marks. She also had a tattoo on her body and ring on the navel.

The investigations into the murder got headway after the girl's father Kartar Singh approached the police and identified her, a senior police official said adding they started checking her contacts and friends.

According to her father, Neetu, who had worked in BPOs of IBM and Convergys, had left her home in May 2010 claiming that she was going to Singapore but the police said they were yet to confirm whether she had gone abroad.

The father told police that they did not meet her after that nor did she tell them about her whereabouts. However, she was in touch with her family through the internet and telephone. In fact, Neetu spoke to her family through the webcam just a day before her body was found.

"She was chatting with me the day before. She just said that she had an injury on the head. When I asked her, she said she fell down", said Alka, Neetu's sister.

The police has not recovered the murder weapon and is not clear about the motive yet.
