Man arrested for killing lover

New Delhi: A 35-year-old man, on the run for almost six months after murdering his girlfriend and dumping her body in a forest in Jharkhand, has been arrested, police said on Sunday. He murdered her after she threatened him with legal action for not marrying him.Sanjay Surana, a resident of south Delhi's Greater Kailash, was arrested from Mahipalpur area Saturday evening on a tip-off.

Surana had an affair with Geeta Vaid, a resident of south Delhi's Lajpat Nagar and a manager in an export company.

Separated from her husband, Vaid was insisting that Surana marry her and threatened him with legal action when he refused to do so.

On July 4, 2011 Vaid went missing from her home and according to police, she had gone to Ranchi with Surana's servant, Dalip.

"Her dead body was recovered from a forest in Giridih (Jharkand) on July 4. It was wrapped in a saffron coloured cloth with sindhoor, lemon, chili, black cloth and bones etc. spread around it," said a police official.

"A photograph of Surana was recovered from the scene," added the official.

A court in Giridih issued non-bailable warrants against Surana and Dalip, and raids were carried out at his Delhi residence but he was absconding.

"Surana was arrested while he was coming from Gurgaon via Mahipalpur Road in his Honda Civic car," said the official, adding the servant is still on the run.
